Gary Lee Baugh
(ABILENE, Texas) Mr. Baugh passed away on May 17, 2024, at Willowcreek Nursing Home in Abilene, Texas at the age of 79. A memorial service will be held on June 22 at 2 p.m. at Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley, Texas.
He was born on Aug. 18, 1944, in Centerville, Iowa to Bill Baugh and Edna Foster Smith Baugh.
In May of 1962 he graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville.
On Oct. 3, 1964, he married his forever bride Annetta (Ann) Printy Baugh. They were married for 59 years. If he was still alive and someone asked how many years he was married, he would have said 49 happy years, but we have been married 59.
He is survived by his wife, Ann of Hawley; a brother, Terry Baugh (Helen) of Tennessee; two sons, Allen (Toby) Lee Baugh of Abilene and Scott Aaron Baugh (Amanda) of Tennessee; and daughter-in-love, Melanie Tidrow Hatfield (Jeff) of Hawley.
Gary (aka: Grampy) is survived by six grandchildren, Mallen Sanchez (David) of Abilene, Mae Baugh (Jamie) of Denton, Texas, Christian Baugh (Grace) of Abilene, Ashlee Baugh, Breanna Baugh and Dakota Baugh of Cussetta; as well as grandchildren by love, Lucy Hatfield, Donnie Hatfield and Emily Roden. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Fox Sanchez, Lilly Sanchez of Abilene and Evylette Craddock of Denton; and four great-grandchildren in love Teddy, Nevaeh, Joshua and Joseph.
He is also survived by a special niece, Brenda Baugh Wood (Brad) of Arkansas; two nephews, Russell Baugh (Marilyine) of Iowa and Tracy Baugh (Pam) of Iowa. He also is survived by nieces and nephews, Patricia Edgin (Charles) of Wisconsin, the Rev. Wayne Kennedy (Theresa) of Wisconsin, Crystal Priest of Maine, Naomi Peterson of Minnesota, Vonda Printy of Illinois, Brian Printy of Illinois and Cheryl Whitfield (Dean) of Illinois. He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews and a host of family members and dear friends. Special mention to dear friends and ministers Ken Brooks (Pam) of Alabama and Mark Tatum (Lisa) of Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Bruce Priest.
Gary was an ordained Bishop of the Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn., on Jan. 30, 1976. He pastored churches in Iowa, Nebraska, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama. He served for four years as State Youth Director in Nebraska. His ministry spanned 50 years, with the last 19 years of ministry at the Handley Avenue Church of God in Roanoke.
He studied at the International Seminary and received the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Theology on Jan. 15, 1991, from Plymouth, Fla.
When he set his mind to do something, he did it. His abilities and talents included preaching, playing the piano, singing, cross-stitching, painting, being a jokester and writing. He authored 45 books with There s Nobody Like Jesus, being his best-selling book.
He will be remembered and missed by many. Forever in our hearts.
His ashes will be placed to rest at Willow cemetery in Haskell, Texas.
