Former Wadley head boys basketball coach Jerrell Burns is the new assistant principal at Handley High School.
At the called meeting of the Roanoke City Schools Board of Education Thursday the board made the following personnel moves in preparation for the upcoming school year. The moves include a shuffle in administrative positions at Handley High School.
Former assistant principal De Lambert has moved into a role as the administrator of student services for the entire school system. Replacing her as the assistant principal is former Wadley head boys basketball coach Jerrell Burns, who led the team to its first-ever state final four appearance last season.
Here is the full list of personnel changes:
RESIGNATIONS
Certified:
a. Kevin Duke, from his position as a history teacher at Handley High School, effective June 24, 2026.
b. Melissa Nelson from her position as a science teacher at Handley High School.
Non-Certified:
a. Ricky Pilgrim, from his position as custodian at Handley Middle School, effective June 25, 2026.
NEW HIRES
For the 2026-2027 School Year:

a. Jerrell Burns as assistant principal at Handley High School.
b. Austin Jacob Reed as assistant principal at Handley Middle School.
c. Scotty Bramblett as a history teacher at Handley High School.
d. Melinda Adams as 6th-grade math teacher at Handley Middle School.

a. Kaitlyn Staples as a pre-k auxiliary teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary.
b. Albrandoes Trammell as custodian at Handley Middle School.
