Brenda J.K. Heard

Funeral services for Brenda J. K. Heard, age 82, of Roanoke, will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Knight’s Cemetery with Bro. Clayton Scott officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, June 22nd.

Mrs. Heard passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at East Alabama Medical Center.

Survivors include: her husband, John M. Heard; two daughters, Molly Loyd (Todd Blackwell) of Jasper and Maggie Heard Vinson of Rome, GA; five grandchildren, Michelle, Braxton, David, Rhett and Crymson; one brother, Murray Knight of Roanoke, and two nieces, Lauren and Callie.

Pallbearers will be Braxton Vinson, Rhett Vinson, David Loyd, T.J. Mayfield, Bradley Keef, and Coy Holloway.

Mrs. Heard was born on March 15, 1944, the daughter of McMurray Knight and Lorena Slay Knight.  She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Mrs. Heard was a graduate of the University of Alabama. She also loved to sing and performed with the Birmingham Civic Opera. After living in Birmingham, she came back to Roanoke to continue her family tradition of being a rural mail carrier (over 120 years) and singing at churches around Roanoke. Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons and infant daughter, Mary Alice.
