Handley’s Rayna Smith, seen here in a game earlier this year, went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI in Handley’s two games in the Class 4A Central Regional in Montgomery Monday.
The Handley Lady Tigers found themselves on both ends of lopsided scores in their first two games at the Class 4A Central Regional in Montgomery Monday, and as a result the team will live to play in the second day of the tournament Tuesday.
Handley dropped its opener 13-3 to Prattville Christian in five innings Monday morning, then bounced back with a 17-5, 5-inning win that sent Pleasant Grove out of the tournament in the afternoon elimination game.
Rayna Smith, who played shortstop in the first game and pitched in the second game, had a big day at the plate for Handley. She was the driving force offensively in the second game as she went 3-for-3 with a walk, 5 RBI and 4 runs scored out of the leadoff spot.
She also gave up four unearned runs on four hits and a walk to earn the victory in the circle.
Breydan Watkins and Makenzie McCain had two hits apiece in the win, and Watkins and Olivia Cobb drove in two runs each.
Senior third baseman Brynnley Lane went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in loss to Prattville Christian in the tournament opener. Claire Pike also drove in a run, and Handley had seven hits in the game, but could not keep pace against Prattville Christian’s 18-hit attack.
