County school board accepts eight resignations, makes eight hires for upcoming school year

In its meeting last Thursday the Randolph County Board of Education made the following personnel moves:
- Approved Brooklyn Moore as a substitute teacher.
- Approved Brooklyn Moore as substitute support personnel.
- Approved Ruskin Gold as substitute bus driver.
- Accepted the resignation of Casey Keen, teacher at Woodland Elementary, effective the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Accepted the resignation, due to retirement, of Shannon Clark, elementary teacher at Wedowee Elementary School, effective the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Accept the resignation of Clint Hill, janitorial and bus route for Wedowee Elementary, effective April 10, 2026.
- Accepted the resignation, due to retirement, of Kerri Strain, CNP manager at Woodland High School, effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Accepted the resignation, due to retirement, of Melody Holden, teacher at Woodland High School, effective June 1, 2026.
- Accept the resignation of Matthew Fendley, special education paraprofessional at Wedowee Middle School, effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Accepted the resignation of Jake Burson, general social science teacher at Randolph County High School, effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Accepted the resignation, due to retirement, of Kevin Smith, head football coach, effective at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year.
- Approved maternity/FMLA for Caroline Sikes Meadows, teacher at Wedowee Middle School, effective August 3, 2026 through September 30, 2026.
- Approved FMLA for Lisa Whelan, math coach at Wedowee Middle School, effective March 24, 2026 through May 18, 2026.
- Approved Tara Parmer as kindergarten teacher at Rock Mills Jr. High School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved Brandi Halsey as fourth grade teacher at Wedowee Middle School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved Tamlyn Higgins as third grade teacher at Woodland Elementary School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved Melissa Pope as fourth grade teacher at Woodland Elementary School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved Jennifer Melton as kindergarten teacher at Wedowee Elementary School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved David Benefield as bus driver for WES/WMS/RCHS effective April 22, 2026.
- Approved Jasmine Murray as custodian/janitor at Wedowee Elementary School effective April 22, 2026.
- Approved the contract for Vickie Herron as a counselor, at the rate of $42.94/hour, effective October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. (Retroactive October 1, 2025).
In other action the board:
- Agreed to pay summer janitors for RCHS, Wadley, and Woodland High Schools at the rate of $12 per hour for 280 hours; summer janitors for Rock Mills, RRCTC, Wedowee Elementary, Wedowee Middle, and Woodland Elementary at the rate of $12 per hour for 80 hours each.
- Agreed to provide RRCTC, Rock Mills Jr. High, Wedowee Elementary, Wedowee Middle, and Woodland Elementary Schools $2,500 each for summer maintenance needs; and for high schools: Wadley High School $3,800, RCHS $4,500, and Woodland High School $4,100 for summer maintenance needs.
- Approved an out of state field trip for approximately 41 Woodland first graders to go to Ole McDernitt’s Farm in Carrollton, Ga., on May 7 with teachers Lovvorn, Timmerman and Vice. The trip is paid for with student funding.
