This still image from Monday’s Facebook livestream of the Randolph County Commission meeting may represent the last time the meetings will be streamed on the social media platform.
The Randolph County Commission’s livestream of its meetings will move to its website randolphcountyal.gov, possibly as soon as the April 23 workshop meeting. The commission has been livestreaming its regular meetings on its Facebook page for several years and recently added a regular livestream of the workshop meetings as well.
However, according to county administrator Travis Heard, the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama has advised the commission against relying on a third party – in this case Facebook – to carry the live feeds of its meetings.
Based on that advice the commission is working to have its website ready to host the video feed of the meetings later this month.
The drawback is that the video will only be available while it is live. Digital storage limitations will not allow the commission to keep the recordings of the meetings available after the live feed is finished. Facebook stores recordings of live videos for 30 days.
Commission meetings are open to the public and all county residents are welcome to attend.
