Incidents
March 16 – County Road 92, Newell
The driver of an 18-wheeler reported that a white Ford SUV passed him while driving erratically and making obscene gestures. The SUV later pulled over, and when the truck driver stopped to speak with him, a verbal argument occurred. The SUV driver then walked back to his truck and retrieved a rifle from his vehicle. The truck driver returned to his truck and left the scene.
March 17 – County Road 82, Newell
A complainant reported that in February, a white male, possibly in his 70s, cut the chain from their gate and replaced it with his own padlock. After the owner removed the lock, the individual returned on March 17 and repeated the act. The man drives a white van with an Alabama Power logo on one side, painted over on the other. He remained on the property approximately 18 minutes and was described as wearing professional attire with an illegible logo and a hard hat. Alabama Power confirmed the individual is not an employee.
March 18 – County Road 45, near Rock Stand
A large Cannon safe was reported stolen from a residence.
March 18 – Woodland
A resident reported identity theft involving their checking account. A suspect has been identified.
March 18 – County Road 427, Pine Hill area
The owner of Sunbelt of Alabama reported the theft of asphalt and game cameras occurring on July 22 and February 27. Surveillance footage shows an older blue-green Ford Explorer with a tan lower panel pulling a single-axle trailer with two seperate ramps. A possible suspect has been identified.
March 20 – Highway 48, Ofelia community
Clothing, a driver’s license, and a birth certificate were reported stolen from a residence. A check was also reported stolen from the mailbox, and unauthorized Amazon charges were allegedly made. Possible suspects were named.
March 20 – County Road 248, near Caver’s Grove
A resident reported stalking.
March 21 – County Road 26, Broughton community
At approximately 8:43 p.m., two masked individuals wearing gloves entered a residence and demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone. One suspect was armed with a revolver. The victim surrendered his wallet but refused to give his phone. He was then struck multiple times and believes he lost consciousness. He was transported by ambulance to Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center. Wedowee Police Department assisted on the call.
March 21 – County Road 59, near Zion Rest Church
Residents reported that since July, a neighbor’s dogs have killed livestock, poultry, and pets, including two turkeys, six quail, six guineas, two peacocks, three piglets, four ducklings, three rabbits, four ducks, six chickens and three cats. The neighbor reportedly stated she could not control the dogs and advised the complainants to shoot them if necessary. The civil process was explained to the complainants.
March 22 – Rhett Circle, Roanoke
Car ramps were reported stolen from a shed. Pry marks indicated forced entry.
