A dime’s worth of difference

By Editor | October 22, 2014 |

Monday’s grand jury indictment of Alabama House Speaker and former Alabama Republican Party chairman Mike Hubbard on 23 felony ethics law violations is a pretty good indication little has changed in state-level politics. The charges include using his office as party chairman and his office as a member of the legislature for personal gain, voting…

Jackson: There’s always room for Jell-O

By Editor | October 22, 2014 |

College football season is halfway over. And once again I ask myself why, every autumn, I waste so much emotional energy over what a bunch of “student-athletes” do in front of a stadium full of rabid fans. Maybe this year I will write about something else. Then I saw the headline: “SEC teams get Jell-O…

By Editor | October 22, 2014 |

Paul Hubbert spent his career trying to improve education in Alabama and has often been called in political circles the “real governor of Alabama,” but one of the two times he ran for that office he was defeated by someone who didn’t attend a day of college. Dr. Hubbert, who had led the Alabama Education…

Wadley gets shut-out win over Victory Christian

By Editor | October 22, 2014 |

The Wadley defense made sure that a few hiccups on offense would not prove costly as the Bulldogs moved one step closer to the postseason with a 23-0 win over Victory Christian. Wadley head coach Ken Fordham used the first half to break in some new looks on offense and the unfamiliarity showed.  “We made…

Reeltown shuts down RCHS running game

RCHS managed just 58 rushing yards, and the passing game could not bridge the gap as the Tigers fell to Reeltown 28-14 Friday. “They’re so big, we just couldn’t get the run going,” said RCHS head coach Pat Prestridge. “We thought we could beat them passing more, and we had some opportunities. But we just…

The win put Handley at 3-5 for the season and snapped the Tigers’ four-game losing streak. “It was a good night for our seniors and for our football…

Altork: Good at being average

By Editor | October 22, 2014 |
