June 16 – Smyrna Community
Home Depot reported a stolen JLG lift at this location. The property owner purchased the lift through a Facebook Marketplace listing in Lithonia, Georgia. He provided a bill of sale and information about the seller.
June 16 – County Road 129, Mount Pleasant Community
A resident reported an aggressive Great Dane in the neighborhood that has attempted to bite and has lunged at neighbors. The complainant has spoken with the dog’s owner, but the issue has not been resolved. The complainant was advised that he has the right to defend himself if he believes he is in imminent danger of being attacked. A second neighbor came to the Sheriff’s Office on June 18 with a complaint about the same dog. The resident reported the dog entered his yard while he was mowing, barking, lunging and acting aggressively.
June 18 – Louina Road, Mt. Zion Community
A complainant reported that his caregiver took his black 1997 Chevrolet Blazer and his debit card and would not respond to his calls.
June 19 – Highway 48, Graham
A 29-year-old Carrollton, Georgia, woman was transported to Grady Hospital in Atlanta after apparently shooting herself in the leg. RCSO and Southern Ambulance Transport responded to the victim’s 2005 Chevrolet Suburban on Highway 48. She told responders she was attempting to remove her pistol from her waistband when the accidental discharge occurred. A passerby applied a makeshift tourniquet before emergency personnel arrived. Witnesses reported seeing a six-foot-tall bald man, shirtless and heavily tattooed, wearing gray shorts and red boxers, collect the firearm and multiple bags from the Suburban before fleeing into nearby woods. A search was conducted using drones and a K-9 from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, but the individual was not located.
June 21 – County Road 10, Morrison Crossroads
Two young women were treated at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center following an altercation involving four young women at a residence. Deputies responded to the location twice during the early morning hours.

Christopher Joseph Whidby, 37, of Newell — Third-degree domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental operations, and failure to pay fines (possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree possession of marijuana) — June 21
Grand Jury Indictment
Richard Dean Neff Jr., 40, of Newell — Third-degree robbery, burglary and third-degree assault
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
