Handley High School celebrated academic achievement on May 4 during its annual Academic Excellence Awards Night, recognizing nearly 100 students for their outstanding performance in the classroom.
The evening’s guest speaker was Dr. Bill Jordan, a distinguished alumnus from the Class of 1956. A graduate of Auburn University and a member of the university’s 1957 national championship football team, Dr. Jordan went on to have a successful career as an engineer. In his remarks, he reflected on his upbringing and emphasized the importance of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to education. He expressed deep appreciation for the teachers who helped shape his path and encouraged students to take pride in their own journeys.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of senior Alli Amason, the class valedictorian. She received both the Thomas Turner Scholarship and the award for highest overall average, honoring her exceptional academic accomplishments.
Students from each grade 9-12 were recognized, and the 10 students with highest grade point averages in the school, regardless of class, were also recognized. Those 10 students are Kate Hendon, Aaron Paguyo, Megan Caldwell, MaKenzi Rowland, Alli Amason (highest average), Chloe Arnett, Alayjah Spencer, Cadence Hinson, Reece Hill and Linkyn O’Quinn.
The ceremony served as a meaningful celebration of student success and a reminder of the lasting impact of education, mentorship, and commitment to excellence.
