A grand jury has indicted a former Randolph County High School teacher and cheer coach for one charge of sexual intercourse with a student.
According to court documents, Makaela Caldwell Hodgins, 32, of Woodland, was arrested and ordered a bond of $30,000.
Charging documents state that the male student was under the age of 19, but do not specify his age.
An idictment is handed down when a grand jury finds that there is enough evidence to believe a crime was committed, and that potential crime is worthy of a trial. It is not an indication of guilt. Hodgins pleaded not guilty to the charge.
A Facebook post from Randolph County High School introduced Hodgins as the RCHS cheer coach in 2022. The post stated Hodgins grew up in Randolph County, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad at Woodland High School. She was a cheerleader at the University of West Alabama, where she earned her Master of Education and met her husband.
“She has been involved in many aspects of coaching cheer for the past ten years through judging try-outs, conducting cheer camps, and choreographing routines,” the post stated.
