Five Points mayor Jeff Monroe received the most votes in Tuesday’s primary and will face John Jacobs in the June 16 runoff.
The neck-and-neck-and-neck results in Randolph County in the three-way race for the State House District 37 Republican nomination did not play out the same way in Lee and Chambers County, and in the end Wadley Mayor Donna McKay was the odd one out.
Randolph County voters were much more evenly split in that race as a total of 30 votes separated the three candidates.
Jeff Monroe – 1,413 votes
Donna McKay – 1,391 votes
John Jacobs – 1,383 votes
The overall results mean that Jacobs and Monroe will meet one more time in the June 16 runoff. The results of that election will determine the Republican nominee for the seat. The winner will face Democrat Michelle French in the general election in November.
All of the candidates are vying to replace Bob Fincher, who did not seek re-election after his third term in office.
