Wadley senior Krislyn Stewart has won the Randolph County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments annual scholarship.
The Randolph County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments is honored to announce they have selected Krislyn Stewart from Wadley High School as the recipient of the 2026 Byrd Stewart Memorial Scholarship Award. For seven years in a row, the Fire Association has awarded the Byrd Stewart Memorial Scholarship to one Randolph County high school senior who exemplifies excellence in their school work and demonstrates a selfless commitment to their community.
Krislyn is an outstanding scholar, on the A honor roll for her entire high school education and will graduate as No. 3 in her class. She is a varsity cheer captain and historian for the Class of 2026. She is actively involved as treasurer of the Future Farmers of America, and vice president of the Future Teachers of Alabama.
Krislyn is also the president of her student government association and the Wadley Key Club. She is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, as well as an Alabama girls state delegate for Wadley High School. Krislyn was also awarded all-American cheerleader from Wadley High School for all four years and was selected to cheer in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu in December 2025.
Krislyn has volunteered for the town’s Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast, and has organized clothes drives for a church near Talladega and with the Save-A-Life program for those in need. A role model in every respect, she is a student leader with the TRUTH Club and participates monthly with the Randolph County Youth Leadership program.
Krislyn is graduating from Wadley High School in May 2026 and plans to attend the University of Alabama to pursue a degree in nursing.
CJ Burk, President of the Randolph County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments extends congratulations to Krislyn and all the applicants who took the time to apply for this scholarship. All were highly qualified and the competition was extremely close. Formal presentation will be made at the Wadley High School awards ceremony on May 6, and again at the annual Randolph County volunteer appreciation banquet in early 2027.
