Incidents
A property owner reported items taken from a house on County Road 35 near Broughton and two vehicles missing from there, a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country van and 1991 Chrysler Imperial. This is under investigation.
A red 2003 GMC truck was reported stolen on County Road 92, Newell, along with a rifle and weed trimmer. The truck was recovered, and the incident is under investigation.
A Georgia man was arrested in connection with a chase that occurred three weeks ago. Clyde Eugene Tullis IV, 29, of Lithia Springs was arrested on Aug. 3 and charged with attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless endangerment and first-degree receiving stolen property. Deputies were searching for a man who has a warrant, and they attempted to speak to Tullis, who allegedly fled from them. After eluding the officers for some time at high speeds, Tullis allegedly baled out and ran into the woods on County Road 4991 near Ava. However, he failed to put the truck in park, and it rolled into a deputy’s vehicle. The truck turned out to have been stolen from Arizona.
A resident of County Road 27 southeast of Woodland reported that their family’s Labrador retriever was found dead with two gunshot wounds. A neighbor had previously threatened to shoot their dog. Another of their dogs has been missing several months.
A bookbag containing a wedding ring set and a metal toy key was reported stolen from a residence on County Road 87 near Big Springs while the owner was in the process of moving.
On Aug. 4, a citizen reported seeing two males going through a car at a residence on County Road 438 near Saxon’s Crossroads. When deputies arrived, no one was located, but there was damage to all of the buildings on the property where they had been broken into. The burglary is under investigation.
East Randolph Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dryer fire on Aug. 5 on County Road 517 near Big Springs. They removed the dryer; however, there was some damage to the floor and from water.
A deputy stopped to help a motorist with a smoking Jeep SUV on Aug. 5 on U.S. 431 near Rock Stand. Before he got the hood open, he noticed flames from inside. The deputy used his fire extinguisher to spray the cracks around the hood before opening it. When Rock Stand Volunteer Fire Department arrived, they soaked the engine down and disconnected the battery.
An inoperable four-wheeler was reported stolen from a storage building on County Road 112 in the Bethel East community. Nothing else appeared to be missing from the storage building. The theft is under investigation.
A Cragford man was injured on Monday when he was attempting to stop his truck from rolling away. According to the report, Jimmy Lamar Vinson, 47, tried to stop his truck when it jumped out of gear at a location on County Road 5 near Cragford. He got pinned between the driver’s door and the cab of the truck when the door ran into a light pole. The truck then ran into his girlfriend’s parked vehicle. Mr. Vinson was transported to Regional Medical Center in Anniston by Clay County Rescue Squad. Cragford Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
