Southern Union to celebrate centennial Saturday
WADLEY – Alumni and friends of Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC) are invited to help celebrate the college’s centennial on the Wadley campus on Oct. 15. This event will be the pinnacle of the yearlong observance of the college’s 100th anniversary.
“We want to welcome everyone that has been a part of SUSCC’s history back to our home campus to celebrate this milestone. Southern Union means so much to so many in our area and beyond. We hope that everyone will come ‘home’ to help us mark this occasion,” said Shondae Brown, director of public relations at SUSCC.
The festivities will begin in the center lawn of the campus at 10 a.m. and will feature performances by alumni choir and dance members, alumni athletic events, an appearance by Miss Alabama Lindsay Fincher, and special presentations throughout the morning. A special memorabilia room will be set up in the Lakeview Room of the resource center to offer a walk down memory lane.
Campus tours will be available throughout the day, as well as children-friendly activities. Lunch will be free to the first 250 people, and food trucks will be available.

The town of Wadley is also hold activities in conjunction with the centennial celebration. Activities downtown will kick off at 8 a.m. with the Cranio Fun Run/Walk. A historical presentation of the “roots” of SUSCC will be presented by Dr. Carol Knight at 9:15, and vendors and entertainment will be featured until 3 p.m.
