Franklin D. Murphy

(WOODLAND) The funeral for Franklin D. Murphy, 88, of Woodland will be Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Jordan’s Chapel with Bro. Chris Mitchell and Bro. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mr. Murphy will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.

Mr. Murphy passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Woodland.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Murphy was born Sept. 29, 1934. He was the son of Joe Lee and Lilar Cosper Murphy. Mr. Murphy proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Johnson Murphy of Woodland; daughters, Debbie Meadows and Frankie Murphy, both of Woodland; son, Phillip Murphy (Stacey) of Roanoke; grandchildren, Tyler Murphy (Shasta), Zack Murphy, Colton Murphy (Erica), Austin Meadows (Caroline), Amanda Johnson (Wayne) and Brittany Murphy; great-grandchildren, Blane Murphy, Braxon Murphy, McKenzie Murphy, Weldon Hargrove, Rylan Hargrove, Bailey Murphy, Henry Murphy and Allie Johnson; sisters, Carolyn McWhorter (Pete) of Marietta, Ga., and Anne Bagley (Don) of Anniston; and brother, Bryant Murphy (Jennifer) of Eastaboga. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Steve Meadows; brothers, Theron Murphy, Leron Murphy, Julian Murphy, Billy Joe Murphy and Robert Murphy; and sister, Clorea Allen.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
