Sammie ‘Frank’ Hester

(WEDOWEE) The funeral for Sammie “Frank” Hester, 72, of Wedowee will be Saturday, April 16, 2022, at noon at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16, before services begin.

Mr. Hester passed away Thursday, April 7, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Hester was born Sept. 28, 1949, the son of Sammy and Imogene Willingham Hester. Mr. Hester achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1964 under the leadership of Mr. Buck Burgess of the Rock Mills Boy Scout Pack. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict and worked for the Department of Defense for 34 years at Anniston Army Depot before retiring. Survivors include his daughter, Kimber Jean Hester of Cave Springs, Ga.; son, Sammy Lee Hester of Atlanta; and two grandchildren, Zoey Hester and Gavin Hester. He was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, Jimmy Willingham; and special friend, Sandra Green.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Lipham, Kyle Baldwin, Hiram Baldwin, Russell Robinson, Rocky Cook and Brad Laney. Mac Baldwin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
