Mavis Nelson McCain
(NEWELL) The funeral for Mavis Nelson McCain, 93, of Newell will be Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Nobbley officiating. Burial will follow at Levens Baptist Church Cemetery, Wedowee.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday before services begin.
Mrs. McCain passed away Monday, Nov. 29, at her home.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. McCain was born Feb. 29, 1928, the daughter of Alonzo and Minnie Lee Norred Nelson. She was a member of Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church, worked as a seamstress at Sewell Manufacturing and was a poultry farmer and homemaker. Mrs. McCain loved providing for and serving her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Brown of Winter Haven, Fla.; son, Mike McCain (Kimberly) of Newell; five grandchildren, Sherry Kelley (Carl), Misty Dauphinee (Matt), Justin McCain (Fran), Spencer McCain (Hannah) and Bronson Bowen (Tanya); seven great-grandchildren, Melissa Barbosa (Christian), James Dygert (Crystal), Lindsay Barco (Miguel), Jacob Kelley, Luke Kelley (Payton), Payton Bowen and Cali Bowen; and 10 great-great-grandchildren, Sara Cate Pollard, Cameryn Dauphinee, Lauryn Dauphinee, Selleck McCain, Warner McCain, Annali Barbosa, Cruz Barbosa, Grayson Kelley, Hayes Kelley and Mason Dygert. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis McCain; son-in-law, James Wendell Brown; granddaughter, Susan Brown Dygert; nine brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be Justin McCain, Spencer McCain, Nelson McCain, Carl Kelley, Luke Kelley, Bronson Bowen, James Dygert and Jacob Kelley.
