Suspect wrecks, then flees on foot

HEARD COUNTY, Ga. – A driver with outstanding warrants, who was eluding a deputy, wrecked his truck in Heard Count, Ga., early Tuesday morning and bailed out, leaving his passenger and her pet monkey behind.

The deputy saw Alan Truman Higgins, 40, of 419 County Rd. 52, Woodland, speeding on County Road 87 in his brown 1986 Ford F-150 truck. The deputy was aware that Higgins had outstanding warrants.

Initially, Higgins pulled over, but while the deputy was speaking with him, he drove off.

Higgins was driving 90 mph on County Road 87 and 60 mph on County Road 632 before crossing over into Heard County. The deputy lost sight of Higgins’ truck and called in a BOLO (be on the lookout) to Heard County officers.

However, he then saw the truck lying on its side on Awbrey’s Gin Road with the driver’s door facing up. Higgins had fled the scene of the wreck, but there was a female passenger still inside the cab, along with her pet monkey.

When Higgins is apprehended, he will be charged with attempting to elude and multiple traffic violation in addition to those outstanding warrants.
