John R. Carmichael

(LANETT) John R. Carmichael, 88, of Lanett passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021, at his residence.

A graveside service will be Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m. EDT at Shawmut Cemetery. The Rev. Mark McCarty will officiate. No visitation is planned.

He was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Penton. Mr. Carmichael was associated with Southern Union State Community College for over 50 years, where he retired as dean of instruction. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Carmichael is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Lanier Carmichael; children, Robert Carmichael (Leta), LuAnne Barber (Jerry) and Mark Carmichael (Lara); grandchildren, Andrew Barber (Brittany), Lindsey Mitchell (Brandon), Bishop Carmichael, Baylee Carmichael and Anna Carmichael; great-grandchildren, Austin Barber, Ava Barber and Kaden Mitchell; and sister, Jeanine Shaw. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lanell Ogletree.
