Remains of Randolph County resident found in burned trailer

Human remains were found on Saturday inside a burned trailer at the edge of Roanoke.

The victim is believed to be James Knight, 63, who resided in an isolated area at 345 County Rd. 18.

According to the report from Roanoke Police Department, a call came from another resident of County Road 18, which is on the eastern edge of the city limits. The caller said Mr. Knight’s girlfriend told him Mr. Knight had burned in a trailer.

Roanoke officers went to the address and found the trailer burned to the ground. Fire Chief Ron Cameron talked with 911 and found no law enforcement or fire department received a call about a fire in the area.

The state fire marshal was called to work the scene in which remains were found. Mr. Knight’s remains were sent to forensics, but his cause of death was ruled undetermined.

The fire is believed to have happened between Aug. 8 and 19, and it is hoped that records from the power company can determine the date.
