Bizarre week for Roanoke Police

Quiet intruder walks in couple’s bedroom

A Louina Street couple was awakened after midnight on Thursday of last week with a man standing in their bedroom.

According to the report from Roanoke Police Department, the resident first heard his dog barking, and then a man walked into their bedroom. The resident asked the man what he was doing in his house, and the intruder asked, “Where is Jennifer?”

The resident told him there is no Jennifer who lives there. Then the intruder walked all through the rest of the house before exiting through the front door without ever saying another word.

When the resident looked outside, a second suspect was standing inside his fenced back yard.

When Roanoke Police arrived, their vehicle was still in the driveway of the house. The alleged intruder, Kenneth Eli Conn, 32, of 608 Bell St., Roanoke, is charged with trespassing and possession of methamphetamine. The second suspect, Matthew Bernard Emanuel, 49, of 1229 County Rd. 459, Woodland, is charged with third-degree trespassing.

What’s that in your pocket?

When a suspected Walmart shoplifter was asked to show what he had in his possession, he showed the officers everything – and we do mean everything.

On Tuesday evening of last week, Roanoke Police were called to Walmart where employees suspected a man of shoplifting. The man had tried to return items, but was informed he could not return insulin. He had been seen placing items in his pockets in the pharmacy area. He was in the self-checkout, but then went to the back of the store. He was then escorted back up front to complete his business.

When police arrived, they asked him to show a receipt for what he had purchased. He began loudly arguing with Walmart management. When he was asked if he had other items on his person that he had not purchased, he unzipped his pants and exposed himself to officers and Walmart employees in the area.

Anthony David Stephenson, 38, of Gainesville, Ga., was arrested and charged with public lewdness.

Shooting suspect treated, victim declines

On Monday afternoon, an alleged shooter was transported to the hospital while the victim brushed off his injuries.

According to the report from Roanoke Police Department, relatives Terry Lee Prothro, 43, of Wedowee and Andrew Bernard Sims, 29, of Wadley were involved in a physical altercation on Williams Street.

According to Sims, he shot Prothro in the leg intentionally as a means of self-defense, to get him off him during the fight. Sims initially ran off into the woods but later returned.

A witness said he didn’t realize the shooting had already happened when he took the gun from Sims and threw it into the woods because they were fighting on his mother’s property. He later helped Roanoke Police locate the revolver.

While the victim declined medical treatment for his slight injury, the shooter was transported because of his blood pressure and heart rate.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Huddle House robbed

Huddle House in Roanoke was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday evening.

Employees told Roanoke Police that a black male entered through the side door with a rifle drawn on his shoulder. He demanded the cook to go to the cash register. She took out the money and put it into a plastic bag. He fled on foot toward the back of the post office.

The suspect was wearing a dark gray hoodie, black pants, black ski mask, and black and white shoes. Investigators later found the rifle in the woods.

Roanoke Police Chief Adam Melton advised citizens to be safe when you go out and pay attention to people and vehicles around your home and business.
