Dewitt ‘Bubba’ Allen Jr.
(ROANOKE) Dewitt “Bubba” Allen Jr., 78, of Seymour Drive, Roanoke, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, at Roanoke Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after an extended illness.
A celebration of life was Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marian Royston, Rev. William Crawford and Bishop Lathonia Wright officiating. Burial followed in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Roanoke.
Mr. Allen was born May 6, 1941, to the late Rev. Dewitt Sr. and Rosie Lee Poole Allen. He was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church in the Broughton community. He served the church as a steward and was in charge of the church cemetery. Bubba was a 1960 graduate of Randolph County Training School. He enjoyed fishing, hunting rabbits and squirrels, and riding a four-wheeler. In September, he was admitted to Roanoke Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Bubba is survived by his wife, Agnes Phillips Allen of Roanoke; son, Charles Allen (Kaye) of Carrollton, Ga.; three daughters, Wanda Allen (Rick) of Valley, Sandra Lyons (James) and Dinah Allen (Darrell) of Roanoke; two sisters, Doris Thompson of Roanoke and Christine Allen of Detroit; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Rev. Rocelius Allen, Josephine Freeman and Mary Emily Watts.
