Verlon C. Hicks

(MARENGO, Ohio) Verlon C. Hicks, 83, of Marengo, Ohio, died Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Bennington Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Family and friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. EDT on Wednesday at Wappner Funeral Directors, Ontario, Ohio. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 28, at the funeral home. Graveside services will take place in Carrier Mills, Ill., at Salem Cemetery.

He was born May 3, 1935, in Newcomb, Tenn. Verlon was the son of Edgar and Wassah Lamb Hicks. Verlon had lived the last 20 years in Wedowee before moving back to Ohio. He was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church in Alabama, where he taught Sunday school, did the church bulletins, maintained the church building and was the church treasurer. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and motors, going to auctions and was a NASCAR and Alabama football fan.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Phil Hicks (Pam), Terry Hicks and Chris Hicks (Sheri), all of Mansfield, Ohio, and Patricia Colegrove (Mark) of Marengo; stepchildren, Lorran Hallock (Rhoda), Charise Hickman (Dick) and Rick Hallock (Tracy), all of Mansfield; step-son-in-law, Robert Wymer of Washington, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Angel of Loveland, Ohio. Preceding Verlon in death were his parents; first wife, Peggy Hicks; second wife, Mary E. Hicks; infant sister, Joyce Maxine Hicks; brother, Melvin Hicks; and step-daughter, Donna Wymer.
