Teen killed in Five Points shooting
FIVE POINTS–An apparent accidental shooting incident Tuesday night in the Five Points community of Chambers County has left a Hoover teen dead.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Chambers County 911 received a call of someone being shot. Upon arrival by deputies, LaFayette EMS and Lifesaver helicopter EMS, they found 19-year-old Barry Anderson III with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Before Anderson could be airlifted from the scene, he went into cardiac arrest and had to be rushed via ground ambulance of LaFayette EMS to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, where aggressive efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 9:01 p.m.
It is believed that Anderson was handling a pistol when he apparently dropped it. When the weapon hit the ground, it discharged and struck him in the abdomen. No foul play is suspected and at this time, it appears the incident was accidental.
Anderson’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem exam.
The case remains under investigation by Lee County Coroner’s Office, Chambers County Coroner’s Office and Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
