Marion M. Shivers
(RAINBOW CITY) The Rev. Marion M. Shivers, 96, of Rainbow City died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Gadsden Health and Rehab Center.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 10, in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, Ga. The Rev. John Evans and Dr. Gary Ashley will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday.
Rev. Shivers was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Randolph County, son of the late Ealie Lorenza Shivers and Dochie Laney Shivers. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of LaGrange College and a minister in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years, serving a number of Methodist churches in the west Georgia area, including Franklin United Methodist Church. Before making his home in Rainbow City in 2013, he lived in Hogansville for 30 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, Hogansville Lions Club and Hogansville Ministerial Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Saylors Shivers, and is survived by his sons and daughters in-law, Steve and Becky Shivers of Gadsden and Richard and Susan Shivers of Buford, Ga.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sisters, Mildred Brown, Annie Ruth Clark and Kathleen Evans.
