James Dorsey Birdsong Jr.

(ROANOKE) Private family services for James Dorsey Birdsong Jr., 97, of Roanoke will be Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

Mr. Birdsong died Monday, Oct. 16, at Roanoke Health Care.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Birdsong was born Nov. 1, 1919, the son of James Dorsey and Cora Lee Siggers Birdsong. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and worked at Handley Mills.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Brown (husband, Wayne) of Roanoke; two grandsons, Rusty Brown of Opelika and Tracy Brown of Roanoke; and seven great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Bridges Birdsong; two brothers, Kyle Birdsong of Fall River, Mass., and John Y. Birdsong of El Reno, Okla.; and one sister, Ruth Slagle of Roanoke.
