Medication mailed to jail leads to arrests

WEDOWEE–An inmate of Randolph County Jail and her husband were arrested last week after it was discovered he had mailed narcotics to her in the jail.

On Tuesday of last week, Randolph County Narcotics Unit agent Larry Clark was contacted by Randolph County Jail matron Lori Green about someone having mailed narcotics to the jail. Green stated that corrections officer Kirby Bassett had located it during the night shift.

At that time, RCNU agents Aris Murphy, Randy Moore and Clark went to the jail. The card contained 14 orange strips with N8 marked on them. The strips were suboxone, a Schedule 3 controlled substance. It was mailed to inmate Kimberly Dawn Sims of Jackson’s Gap, and the return address was to a Tim Reves. Clark pulled Mrs. Sims’ information and found out she is married to Roy Gary Sims, 61, her ex-husband is Robert Anthony Reves and her ex-brother-in-law is Tim Reves. After further looking into the card, he noticed that “Reves” was spelled incorrectly and the address was also incorrect. Clark then looked at another card Mr. Sims had brought Kimberly, and the handwriting appeared to be the same.

Clark then read Mrs. Sims, 37, her rights and showed her just a portion of the front of the envelope where her name was and asked her whose writing it was. She said it was her husband’s. She further stated she had asked her husband to send her a Mother’s Day card. She also stated she had a prescription for suboxone at her residence in Jackson’s Gap.

On Thursday, May 18, Mr. Sims was placed under arrest. He stated that his wife had called him from the jail and wanted him to mail her the suboxone. After going back and listening to the phone conversations at the jail, it was discovered that Mrs. Sims did ask him to mail in the suboxone.

Mrs. Sims is charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, and her husband is charged with distribution of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband.
