Howard R. Calhoun

(DALTON, Ga.) Funeral services for Howard R. Calhoun, 93, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Wedowee, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. Calhoun died Sunday, Oct. 30, at Morningside of Dalton.

A Woodland native, Mr. Calhoun was born Nov. 22, 1922, the son of Jerry and Viola Smith Calhoun. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and worked as a supervisor at West Point Pepperell.

Survivors include one son, Ken Calhoun of Dalton; one grandson, Scott Calhoun of Brunswick, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Luke Calhoun of Minneapolis. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavis Brown Calhoun; seven brothers and six sisters.

Pallbearers will be Phil Gasaway, Freddy Brown, Terry Brown, Randy Wilson, Tim Brown and Andy Rainey.
