Clifford Meigs

(DAVISTON) The funeral for Clifford Meigs, 87, of Daviston was Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Daviston Baptist Church. The Revs. Shane Dye, Bennie Lee Yates and Jacob Wilkerson officiated. Burial followed in church cemetery.

Mr. Meigs died Friday, Sept. 30, at his residence.

He was born May 7, 1929, in Tallapoosa County to Gaines S. Meigs and Zella Niomi Cotney Meigs. He was a member of Daviston Baptist Church, Tallapoosa County Cattleman’s Association and Alabama Farmer’s Federation. He was a master farmer and cattleman. Mr. Meigs enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid reader of Western novels.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean Townley Meigs of Daviston; daughters, Donna Blackmon of Daviston and Kim Shelton (Greg) of Jacksons Gap; grandchildren, Brandon Bence, Andy Clark (Kelsi), Ryan Blackmon (Becky), Adam Clark (Kealey) and Samantha Himes (Stephen); great-grandchildren, Kennedy Clark, Colten Clark, Paisley Clark and Lily Himes.

The family prefers memorial contributions be made to Daviston Baptist Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 115, Daviston, AL 36256.
