Bobby Joe Bates

(SUGAR HILL, Ga.) Bobby Joe Bates, 75, of Sugar Hill, Ga., formerly of Carrollton, Ga., died Sunday, May 8, 2016.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 14, at Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery, Graham, Ala., with the Rev. Jerry Wiggins officiating.

Mr. Bates was born April 28, 1941, in Heflin, Ala. He lived most of his life in Carrollton. He was a 1959 graduate of B.B. Comer Memorial High School, Sylacauga. He was a retired Industrial Mechanic from Bonnell Industries. He also worked for Southwire Company in Carrollton. He was owner of Bates Enterprise, Carrollton, and a member of Campground United Methodist Church in Graham.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Bates. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Tracy Bates of Renton, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Meka and Chris Wood of Sugar Hill; four grandchildren; brother, Rudolph Bates of Alabama; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
