Dog show Saturday at Equine-Ag Center
The Randolph County Boys & Girls Club Dog Show will be Saturday at the Equine & Ag Center off Hwy 431 between Wedowee and Roanoke. Registration will open at 9, and the dog show will begin at 10:30. This is not an AKC dog show but a show that will be fun and enjoyable for spectators, dogs and owners alike.
The 16 classes are: Best Costume, Prettiest, Most Handsome Hound, Golden Oldie (8 years+), Best Puppy, Happiest Dog, Rescue Dog (any dog who has been saved), Best Trick, Mysterious Heritage, Pure Breed, Best Look Alike (dog that looks like its owner), Ugliest Dog, Bad Hair Dog, Twin Dog, Sausage Retriever, Grand and Reserve (all first- and second-place winners) and Best of the Rest (every dog that has not won a first place). One trophy and four ribbons will be awarded for each class. The judges for the day are Elizabeth Stanford and April Richardson. They are both employed by Randolph County Animal Shelter and have a vast experience with canines.
Ellen Sims will be on hand with her camera to take pictures of you and your best friend. Photography packages will be available for $11. A concession stand with drinks, popcorn, nachos, sweets and, of course, grilled hot dogs will be available. Dogs from the animal shelter will be featured at the show for anyone who might want to adopt a dog.
Vendor spots are available for $20. You may call Antonia Bell, Mary Ammons or Anne Montgomery for further information.
General admission is $3 and children under 6 are admitted free. For a dog (and its owner) to enter a class, admission is $10. You may enter your dog for as many classes as you want at $10 per class. Applications are available at Wedowee City Hall, Roanoke City Hall, Wadley City Hall, WELR, Roanoke Utility Board, TEC and Claws & Paws, or you can get an application the day of the event. For safety’s sake all shots and immunizations should be up to date and all dogs must be kept on a leash. Proceeds from the event will go to Randolph County Boys & Girls Club.
Porter the dog is practicing his best “Sit” command for the upcoming dog show Saturday. Boys & Girls Club members ready for the show are (front, from left) Jasmine Holley, Amiya Holliday, Porter the dog and Jonathan Holley. Holding some of the trophies to be presented (back row) are Amaysia Edwards, Courtney McCommons and My’Asia Whitlow.
