Glover Childs
(LaGRANGE, Ga.) Glover Childs, 67, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at UAB Medical Center, Birmingham.
The celebration of life service will be Friday, April 29, at 1 p.m. CDT at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Roanoke (Welch). The Revs. Reuben Simpson and James Dunbar will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church, Roanoke (Bacon Level).
Mr. Childs was born April 8, 1949, to the late, Steve Childs and Lee Ella Magby Childs. He was a member of Gathering Ministry. Glover attended Phillips High School, where he served as president of the student council. He went on to attend West Georgia Tech, where he received his nursing degree. Mr. Childs was employed by Handley Mills, West Georgia Medical Center, Rosser Nursing Home, Chattahoochee Hospice and Lanier Memorial Hospital, where he worked from Jan. 18, 1985, until his retirement on Dec. 28, 2008.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Anne Childs; children and their spouses, Theresa (Keith) Marable, Pamela Jackson, Cassandra (Duncan) Patterson, Glover (Shemeica) Childs Jr., Anthony (Chelsea) Childs and Deidra Childs; stepchildren, Penny Dabney and Pepper (Ty) Hunter; 18 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren one step-great-grandchild; siblings, Virginia Childs Fanning, Lillie Childs Simpson and Louis Edward Childs; mother-in-law, Annie Rowland; his former wife, Gwen Childs; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Bobbie Lee Childs, Willie Frank Childs, Leon Childs, Steve Childs Jr. and Melvin Childs.
The family will be at their home at 725 N. Greenwood St.
