Fish sale this Saturday

The Handley Outdoor Educational Center (OEC) will be selling hybrid catfish Saturday at the center from 8 to 11 a.m. for $2.25 a pound. Students raised them. Agriculture teacher Justin McCollum said they have 300 to 350 catfish, each weighing two to three pounds.

Auburn University Extension will be assisting. Students will be seining up the fish. Unless there is a line of buyers it should not take long.

This is a good deal with fresh, well-fed fish. They originally came from Auburn University Fisheries. The ponds have liners so there is no mud to affect the taste, he said.

The OEC is fenced in and is behind the football field or the new baseball field. You drive in where the gate is and drive to the left where the pond is.

He reminds everyone to bring their own containers or coolers with them. Depending upon how far they have to travel they might want to include ice in their coolers.

“Come early so you don’t miss out,” McCollum said.

They will take cash or local checks. Anyone with questions can call McCollum at 1-256-618-1282.
