Ashland National Guard unit deployed

MONTGOMERY–The Alabama Army National Guard’s 1200th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, out of Ashland, has been called to active duty.

The battalion headquarters held a departure ceremony in Ashland at its armory on Hwy. 9 at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 13.

The 1200th will deploy approximately 50 Alabama National Guard soldiers to Egypt for an ongoing, multinational peacekeeping mission, which monitors the peace and the border between Egypt and Israel since 1979.

The 1200th will provide logistics support to the units conducting the observation mission in three sectors along the Egypt-Israel border.

The 1200th will continue to undergo extensive training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.

State and local officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, attended the ceremony to send off the soldiers of the 1200th.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 22,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation’s National Guard organizations.
