Inmate flees city jail; now in county jail

An inmate at Roanoke City Jail is now at Randolph County Jail after climbing over the fence and escaping last week.

According to the report from RPD, Traymon Jontavius Morgan, 22, of 750 Seymour Dr., Apt. 21, was in the exercise yard with the other inmates on Tuesday afternoon when he climbed over the fence and ran away.

He jumped over the fence of the yard and ran behind the police department and up the hill by the fire department on Chestnut Street. He was caught and transported back to the police department. The other inmates said Morgan had not talked about doing this; he just did it.

Morgan had been placed in Roanoke’s jail on May 9 for third-degree theft and resisting arrest.

Arrest in break-in

Anthony Lee Briskey, 38, of LaFayette was arrested on May 15 and charged with burglary in connection with a break-in at Community Mart on Seymour Drive. The store was broken into twice in April.
