Martha Nan Lee Handzel

(REDLANDS, Calif.) Martha Nan Lee Handzel, 81, of Redlands, Calif, died Feb. 25, 2015.

Memorial services will be at Emerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Handzel was born in Wedowee on July 24, 1933, to Virginia Hodnett Lee Walker and John Thomas Lee. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham in 1951 and the University of Alabama School of Nursing in 1955. After graduating, she was appointed to the faculty at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Nursing, where she was the youngest member of the faculty at the time. Martha worked at the Dermatology Medical Group in Redlands for many years and enjoyed camping and fishing. She was also a proud member of Heritage Optimist Club of Redlands and Yucaipa Christian Church.

Martha is survived by her daughter Catherine Davis; sons, Jim and Chris Handzel; brother, Thomas J. “Jack” Lee; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her parents and her husband, James R. Handzel.
