Phillip M. ‘Sammy’ Ray

(ROANOKE) Phillip M. “Sammy” Ray, 67, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at his residence.

The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m .EDT at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.

A native of Valley, Mr. Ray was born Sept. 8, 1947. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. Mr. Ray was a retired police officer and had served as chief of police in Heflin. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Andrea Ray; three sons, Phillip Michael Ray Jr. and wife Meredith of Valley, Ben H. Ray of LaFayette and Samuel Ray of Arkansas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
