Margaret Sledge Cannon

Margaret Sledge Cannon, 88, of Madison, formerly of Cusseta, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Cannon was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Shawmut. She was formerly employed with West Point Pepperell’s Fairfax Mil and with the Playtex Corporation in LaFayette. She was also a homemaker and the wife of a U.S. Air Force man and an elder in the Primitive Baptist Church. She was the oldest member of the Heritage Primitive Baptist Church in Madison.

Surviving are three sons, Timothy Neal (Emily) Cannon of Madison, Michael Lee (Sharon) Cannon of Opelika and Jeffrey (Cecelia) Cannon of Cusseta; a brother, Franklin Sledge of LaGrange, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cannon; parents, Dewight and Sadie Sledge; brother, Hilton Sledge; and sister, Helen Hollis.

Services will be Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The Rev. Timothy Cannon and the Rev. Frank Sledge will officiate.
