Ruby L. Houze

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) Ruby L. Houze, 92, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Regency Church of God with pastor John V. Morgan and the Rev. Steven Kick officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

She was born in Roanoke, Ala., on July 2, 1921, to Charles and Mattie Tittle, the youngest of eight children. Ruby has been a Jacksonville, Fla., resident for more than 70 years, and she was a longtime member of Regency Church of God. Ruby was a talented seamstress and cook; and she was well known for her delicious, homemade cornbread and biscuits.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda G. and Jim Wishart and Emmie J. and Van Witten; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel Barron. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Jesse Paul Houze; two sons, Jesse Paul Houze Jr. and Charles H. Houze; a grandson; a brother and five of her sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity of your choice or to Regency Church of God in Ruby’s name.
