Hundreds of children’s books at shelter sale
Randolph County Animal Shelter volunteers Barry and Valerie Morris and Cathryn Clark worked at the warehouse Tuesday separating children’s books into groups, from easy reader books all the way to teen books.
A generous donor gave them hundreds of children’s books, which will be available at the shelter’s book sale Saturday, fundraising chairwoman Evelyn Smith said. She said they are much appreciated.
Parents and grandparents are urged to bring their children to find some books. They can get five children’s books for $1.
There are seasonal offerings of Christmas children’s books in excellent condition that could be used for gifts.
The volunteers were pulling out the books from boxes and placing them in groups according to the children’s ages and reading level. They will be on the tables as visitors walk into Chris Mitchum’s warehouse and also in the usual children’s section to the right as you walk in.
There is also a mystery grab bag of 10 books for $1 and a romance grab bag of romance novels 10 for a dollar on the front porch. Hardcover best sellers go for as little as $2 a book.
“Hopefully we will make some money,” Smith said. Funds are used to take care of the animals at the shelter in Wedowee. Saturday the book sale will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the warehouse across from Cedarwood Cemetery.
