Man charged with attacking another for being on ‘his street’

A Roanoke man was arrested after allegedly hitting another man with a gun and shooting at him for being on “his street.”

Cedrick Lamar Heard, 29, of 733 Chestnut St., Roanoke, was arrested on Tuesday of last week and charged with second-degree assault.

Officers responded to a call that Heard had shot at Earl Eugene Pogue, 49, of Roanoke. When they arrived they saw Heard walking along the road and they searched for Pogue. Heard was cursing loudly, to the point that neighbors were coming out to see what was going on.

Heard went to his mother’s house and came out of her house with something in each hand, possibly a handgun in one. Heard then used force to break open the door at the house where he is staying. The door came off the hinges and fell to the floor.

Since he appeared to be armed and was not responding to the officers’ commands, they called for backup. Pogue, who was bleeding, then walked up. He said he had been walking down Chestnut Street when Heard walked up and told him to get off his street. Pogue began walking off, and Heard hit him in the head with a gun. He kept walking, and Heard began shooting at him. Pogue was taken to Wedowee Hospital.
