Grace Poole Ferrell

(ROANOKE) Grace Poole Ferrell, 90, of Roanoke died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Traylor Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church on Friday, June 21, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. R.L. Heflin and William Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Ferrell was born in Randolph County on Nov. 16, 1922, to Wyatt and Clara Strong Poole. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Mrs. Ferrell started working as a housekeeper when she was young and worked for Irene Finch and her family for many years. She loved cooking and also worked at the cafe next to the Minnifield house (Ferrell Service Station and Diner). Mrs. Ferrell was also a big Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She was married to the late Rev. Louis W. Ferrell, and she will be most remembered as this well-known minister’s wife. She loved to travel with him while he served as pastor.

She is survived by four sons, Louis Ferrell Jr., Isaac Ferrell of Wisconsin and Willie George Ferrell and Willington Poole Sr. of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ferrell was preceded in death by one brother, Wyatt Poole Jr.; and five sisters, Jimmie. L. Heard, Fannie M. Moody, Lurleen Poole, Margaret Poole and Maggie Lois Poole.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mrs. Ferrell will be in state on Friday, June 21, at noon at the church.
