Alvie Mae Strong Lake
(PHENIX CITY) Alvie Mae Strong Lake, 89, Phenix City died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Columbus Hospice House.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, May 12, at Auburn Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Scarborough officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Garden and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.
Alvie Mae Lake was born Oct. 30, 1922, daughter of the late Leon Strong and Lillie Knight Strong in Roanoke. She retired from Pillowtex (Fieldcrest) in Columbus, Ga., and served as president of AFL-CIO Local Textile workers Union in Columbus. She was a charter member of Auburn Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son Aubrey “Randall” Lake of Smiths; sisters, Ruthie Annis Hamlet of Alexander City, Leona Lake of Opelika, Amber Pearl Oliver of Lanett and Annie Odean Hayes of LaGrange, Ga.; brothers, John Winfred Strong and Andra Earl Strong, both of Georgia; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Other than her parents, Alvie is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Aubrey Lake; sisters Mary Catherine Smith, Summer Rene Strong and Anna Orene Strong.
