Franklin Benefield

(LINEVILLE) Funeral services for Franklin Benefield, 64, of Lineville will be Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at noon at Concord Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Kytan, Pat Hurst and Ray Camp officiating. Burial will follow in Green’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wedowee.

Mr. Benefield died Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

A Randolph County native, he was a former resident of Atlanta and Calhoun County. Mr. Benefield settled in Clay County in 1986. After graduating from Oxford High School, he attended Jacksonville State University and then joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for three years. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Benefield worked for UPS until he was retired following an injury on the job. Franklin then attended Ayers State Technical College and completed degrees in drafting, blueprinting, television repair, computer science and woodworking. He loved bluegrass and gospel music and loved to visit with and talk with people. Mr. Benefield was a member of Concord Baptist Church and a member and secretary of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Chapter 523.

Mr. Benefield is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Debra S. Benefield of Lineville; his mother, Marvelene Burch of Anniston; his son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Christi Benefield; and a granddaughter, all of Wedowee; and his mother- and father-in-law, Billy and Nancy Sprayberry. He was preceded in death by his father, Morgan Franklin Benefield.

Pallbearers will be Larry Waldrep, Scott Sprayberry, Woodrow Brown, Butch Sprayberry, Wayne Browning, Keith Sprayberry, Steve Cotton and Ricky Kirby. Members of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Chapter 523, will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Concord Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 10, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at noon. There will be no evening visitation.
