Sam Knight

(FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.) Sam Knight, 69, of Flowery Branch, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at his home.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Knight was born Nov. 22, 1942, son of Edward B. Knight Sr. and Mary Lemmer Ussery Knight. From an early age, he knew that he was to work full time for the Lord. His father was a pastor, and he was called to full-time ministry work in his late 20s. After obtaining his master’s degree in theology from Southeastern Seminary, he became the associate pastor at Morningside Baptist Church in Atlanta and served there for a year. Sam also served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had been a Georgia all-star football player at Ware County High School in Waycross.

Sam is survived by sons and their wives, Mark and Maria Knight of Oxford, Ga., and Tim and Lori Knight of Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter, Chase Knight of Atlanta; four grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Knight of Morrow, Ga. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Knight.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brian Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to services beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
