Man pleads guilty to theft from cemeteries
The District Attorney’s Office of the Fifth Judicial Circuit announced guilty pleas that were recently entered in connection with theft of vases and other ornaments and memorials from graves in Chambers and Randolph counties.
Warren Smallwood pled guilty in connection with Skyview Memorial Gardens in the Welch community on U.S. 431. The plea in this case was to first-degree theft and desecration of graves. Smallwood received a sentence of 61 months and was placed on probation. He was ordered to pay restitution to victims in the amount of $16,000 in this case.
Smallwood also pled guilty in a case involving Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Huguley. His plea was again to the crime of first-degree theft, and he was sentenced to 46 months and required to serve 5 years on probation. He was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $27,275 at the rate of $100 per month.
Circuit Judge Tom F. Young took Smallwood’s pleas and pronounced sentence in each of the cases.
