Paul Judson Moss
(ROME, Ga.) Paul Judson Moss, 81, of Rome, Ga., died Wednesday night, Aug. 31, 2011, upon arrival at a Rome hospital.
Dr. Moss was born in Brunswick, Ga., on March 10, 1930, the son of the late Charles Hill and Maude Hawthorne Moss. Dr. Moss was a graduate of Glynn Academy in Brunswick and received his B.A. from Mercer University. He received his master of religious education degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and his doctorate in adult and continuing education from the University of Georgia. He had served as a teacher, professor and minister of education at Baptist churches in Georgia and Maryland. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and also served in other capacities, including writing the latest history of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Willodean Daniel Moss; one son, Mark Daniel Moss and his wife, Kimberly Miller, of Savannah; two daughters, Carri Beth Moss Mahar and her husband, William J. Mahar Sr. of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Amy Lee Moss of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles H. Moss and William Truett Moss.
A memorial service was Monday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Joel Snider and Dr. Hugh Peacock officiating. A private interment was Sunday, Sept. 4, at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodland, Ala., with the Rev. Bill Davies officiating.
