Max New

(LaGRANGE, Ga.) Max New, 58, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.

Mr. New was born Sept. 29, 1952, in Wedowee, son of Adele Hanson New and the late Troy Randall New. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he served as minister of music, youth and children’s ministry. Mr. New had a passion and love for music and loved serving and helping others. He earned an associate’s degree from Southern Union State Junior College and a paramedic degree from Auburn University-Montgomery. Mr. New was an avid Auburn fan and was a local personality on TV33 for many years. He loved and adored his grandchildren and he loved his dogs.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 20 years, Marcelene New of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy New Steakley and Todd of Calera; sons and daughters-in-law, Josh and Shannon New of LaGrange, Daniel New of Calera and Luke and Deanna Fryer of Jefferson, Ga.; five grandchildren; brothers, Gerald New of Decatur, Ala., Bill New of Opelika and Ricky New of Lineville, Ala.; mother- and father-in-law, Annice and Claud Bell of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Fryer McDaniel.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Unity Baptist Church with the Revs. Doug Bingham and Matt Browning officiating. Interment will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
