Lessie Marie Boyd Kirby
(HUGULEY) Lessie Marie Boyd Kirby, 97, of Huguley died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Kirby was born Oct. 12, 1913, in Wedowee, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Cora Pearl Moore Boyd. She was a graduate of Randolph County High School and attended Jacksonville State University and beauty school. Mrs. Kirby was a retired beautician with West Point Beauty Shop and helped people in the community. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Huguley, where she taught Sunday school and was a volunteer at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home until she was 95.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Sonny Johnston of Huguley; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Sylvia Kirby Sr. of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Avonelle Norred Kirby of Palmetto, Ga.; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Mearl Kirby; a son, Dr. Jerry M. Kirby; three sisters and a brother.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point, Ga., with the Revs. John Kirby Sr., Darren White and Kenneth Overby officiating. Burial will follow at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.
